“…gulp…”

Now normally I’m an tough sort of guy (…you’ve got to be tough when you’ve got a 19 month old the size of mine…) but I don’t mind admitting to you.  I’m SCARED!

It took me at least three or four minutes to think of what the first line of this post was going to be and “…gulp…” was all that I could come up with.

Why? (…am I scared that is…)

Well , to be honest.  I didn’t want to write this post.  But I knew I had to.

The great thing about the internet and this blog, is that it leaves a concrete record of what I say.  So I thought I’d use this fact to really put the cat amongst the pigeons.

In the last post and a good few of the comments that I’ve been dotting around the place, I’ve mentioned that I’m going to have a COMPLETE CHANGE OF FOCUS FOR MY BUSINESS.

So now it’s time… (oooh, is the suspense getting to you yet?  No?  Well I guess I’ll just get on with it then…)

I am now going to be completely, 100% focussed on BUILDING AN EMAIL LIST OF PEOPLE!

You’ll always here me describe it like this because I think that too many marketers today forget that email addresses aren’t the ones with the money (…or family, hopes or dreams for that matter…).

People are.

Now I know that you’ve heard me say this before, but I think that it’s so important to remember that it’s worth repeating.

So I had an idea (…this could all come crashing down around my ears…)

When “Coach Alex” put out a competition to see who would be able to get the most traffic to their site in a certain amount of time, everyone went absolutely crazy (…the term MASSIVE ACTION took on a whole new meaning…)

This had something to do (…I think…) with the fact that people now had a concrete target and time period to aim for.

Well Mr Alex Jeffreys, I’m borrowing your idea (…I’ve still paused before writing this bit because I’m PETRIFIED of putting this “out there”…)

I’ve mentioned in previous posts about my goals and how you should have goals in your business to if you really want to achieve success.

Well ‘ere goes (…can you see how I’ve been trying to put this bit off for the whole post…)

2000 subscribers in 60 Days!

(…there it’s done…)

Now this may sound silly.  It may sound unreachable. (…I’m not even sure but we’ll soon see…)

But there is one thing that I have that is giving me the unwavering confidence that I can achieve this…

A PLAN! (…I’ve gone planning nuts…  pre-planned plans… post-planned plans… plans to plan plans…)

There are specific things I’m going to do to reach this target.  (…not mentioning them yet because I’m not even sure they’re going to work.  But worth a try eh…)

Building a list of people is the cornerstone of ANY online business. I haven’t been putting nearly enough effort into this part of things (…but that’s all about to change…)

The start of the “60 Day Challenge” begins on Sunday  (…I’ll tell you why Sunday as we progress.  Sorry for all the secrecy but I don’t want to give any info out that I haven’t tested for myself yet…)

I will be posting my results right here on this blog.  Good or Bad (…I’m not joking, my heart is literally thumping out of my chest now, digestives anyone…)

The Spanish Inquisition Strikes Again…

Just one question, just like in my first ever post…

Who’s coming with me?

Am I crazy, unrealistic, or just plain stupid?… let me know in the comments below…

That is one scary picture Nathan! As you were describing your hesitancy in the post I was also picturing you on your computer debating whether or not to hit the submit button for the post like I do sometimes because you are right once you hit submit there’s no turning back.

I am happy and excited for you that you have made this goal for yourself which is a hefty goal at that but am confident since you have a plan for your plans that you will get it done!

Can’t wait to hear how you progress and how you are doing it as well and what the secret is behind Sunday. Just know that I am rooting for you every step of the way and all that’s left to do now is to take massive action so go get ‘em!!!!!

      I know Anna.

I saw it and thought “that’s exactly how I’m feeling now. Gotta have it!”

Feel even more scared now that you’ve said “hefty goal” but as they say “one step at a time. Shoot for the moon and you’ll at least hit the stars.” Either way, can’t really lose.

You’re still working incredibly hard and it’s great to see. Really appreciate you taking time out to come back here and have a look.

    Hey Nathan,

Considering the amount of effort and time everyone spent on the traffic competition and what they all achieved I think we should all be able to build a massive list in a relatively short time.

Good luck with your 2000 subs goal, if anyone can do it, you can.

I have already started focusing all my efforts onto list building rather than traffic now, so I am defo with you.

    Hey Nathan,

I can virtually feel the energy vibrating from your words and I take this as a good sign. If you weren´t scared a bit of the goal you have set for yourself it would probably be too small!

It is an ambitious goal but I am absolutely confident that you can reach or even -what an outrageous idea- surpass it.
Remember when we set our first goals at the very beginning of our coaching program?
To be honest one has to admit that we didn´t really know what we writing down since we didn´t have any concret knowledge of what all we needed to do to reach those goals. But now almost 3 months into the game we are able to deal a new hand with our back-packers filled with experience and a ton of new knowledge from our coaching and the implementation of the same. Right?
It certainly remains an ambitious goal you´ve set here but nonetheless it can be done and if you are as committed as I read it through your lines of words then I have no doubt that you will succeed.
I am really curious as to how you are going to approach this goal? Will you be offering your first own freebie for an optin? Which part of the online marketing djungle are you going to explore in your freebie? Which source of traffic will you be targeting to get to your aim? Question after question and I have more…:-)

My good friend Nathan, I keep my fingers crossed from this very moment on that you´ll choose the right tools and find the needed time for the action required to reach your goal. You certainly have everything it takes to reach such a goal.

Am I with you? Of course I am! We are starting out on sunday, right?

    Awesome post. Love it!

      Mirko,

This is why I love you man. (…Just wait for the next post ;-) …)

I’ve never “met” someone that is such a personification of a book. You are “The Secret”

I’m going to answer every one of those questions right here on the blog. Like I said, it’s not that it’s a secret, it’s just that I’m not going to be one of those marketers that deals in THEORY.

I am going to do first, find out what works, and then tell (…with results…)

Has it been nearly 3 months already. What a crazy ride. I’m so excited about this and about the value that I can give.

We need to make a mastermind group. Get our calls recorded. (…That’ll make some great content for the people on our lists…)

You are with me my friend. I’m taking you. I’ll be in touch.

      Keep spreading that good.

I am really excited for you with your new goal. Yes, it may seem daunting but as Mirko mentioned ” If you weren´t scared a bit of the goal you have set for yourself it would probably be too small!”

I mean what a challenge you have laid out for yourself. The thing is, if you did not set that goal you will never know if you can make it out not. If you don’t make it, your next 60 day goal should be 2000 subscribers. Keep shooting for your goals until you reach them, even if they take longer than expected.

With that being said I truly hope you meet you goal as planned.

I look forward to hearing about your progress and what you are doing to get the subscribers.

      Rick my friend,

You’re so right. I know this is a massive task that I’ve set myself (…and anyone else who wants to join in…) but that’s the point.

This is a WIN WIN situation.

If I don’t make it to 2000 in 60 days then I’ll definitely be closer to 2000 than I was 60 days before. So my business would’ve grown.

That is definitely not a bad thing :-)

If Phileas Fogg can get around the world in 80 days, you can most CERTAINLY get 2000 people with family, friends, houses, cars, dreams, visions, credit cards AND MONEY on your list in 60!

I believe it. And I WILL join you, to do it, too.

When we first set out on our internet marketing training, Alex told us to aim for 1500 subscribers to our list, but set our own time-line to achieve it.

You’ve gone 500 better than that , and I like it.

So what is the target date, Nathan?

I’ll be putting it in my diary and making my own plans to reach there with you, or ahead of you, or just behind you – but I’m planning to get there…oh, oh, oh…I don’t care how I get there, I’ll get there if I can…(I think in songs, you may have noticed!)

I’m going around the net in 60 days with Nathan and Mirko and…who else is coming with us?? !! All aboard! 8)

THE 60 DAY CHALLENGE STARTS ON SUNDAY 27TH JUNE (…which means it ends on SUNDAY AUGUST 1ST…)

I will be sharing every tactic I’ve used and what the results of those were.

I have to put myself under IMMENSE pressure to get my butt into gear. So 2000 (…500 over what Alex said…) seemed to be a good number.

    G’day Nathan
Hey mate you cant go wrong setting a really challenging goal. Interested to know what you think 2000 opt ins will do for you? It will certainly begin to change your life. I know from reading earlier posts that you desperately keen to leave your regular job. How many opt ins do you think you need to make this goal a reality.

When I set myself a really challenging task if I try to visualise all the things that will be better in my life once this task is achieved. It just puts all the hard work in perspective.

Nathan my friend, all you need to do is visualise the day you head of to work with your letter of resignation in your pocket. Think of how good you will feel and how it will change your life, you will probably get more than 2000 opt ins.

    Good Luck

      Dave,

You’ve hit the nail SMACK BANG on the head. It’s funny because I’ve already taken your advice.

I’ve actually got the date for that resignation day (…It’s going to be a new public holiday called MASS RESIGNATION DAY…) April 26th 2011.

Also, I’ve actually had the day when I’m leaving the job written down like for the past year. From the moment I wake up to travelling to work on the train.
To entering the bosses office etc. I know how I’m going to feel before, during and after. I even know what the whether is going to be like (…I’m being really cheeky there…)

Dave, I’ve read your story on your blog and you’re some bloke. Talk about taking on the world. With your little one in tow and running an offline business as well. Inspiring.

Comapred to what you’re doing, 2000 people on my eamil list is going to be easy :-)

Firstly I would like to mentioned that by writing the above post you have won more-than-half the battle. The rest will definitely come.

If I look back 2 months from now when the MWA3.0 training started, I have done not bad. But I have NOT published a plan for which I am accountable and this is one of the KEY KEY KEY things that is mandatory for any business to succeed.

As I read your email the thought I had was – I am next and now its my turn. And felt a series of vibrations thinking about it !

Let me know how I can support you (not a pro internet marketer but whatever I can I’m an email away).

    Hi Nathan,
If you want to know how to build your list, than we should talk. I’m an expert!!! I’ve built a list of 700 in quick order. I manage two listing systems. One is Aweber which is a rather small list and the other is a “direct” system, which is the list with 700 subscribers, where I provide all types of Internet Marketing Materials for a “direct” opt-in. No follow up E-Mail needed! I have a new E-Book ready to launch, so I sent out my first pre-launch E-Mails to my list …………… ALL 700 came back undeliverable. Arghhh!!! Of all the stupid …………… oh well back to the drawing board!

Respect to you for putting this out there and making yourself accountable!!! I wish you tons of success and reckon with a solid plan (which it certainly sounds like you have) plus the dedication required (which I certainly think you’ve got) you’re going to reach your target or at least get REAL close!!!

Don’t know if it’s part of your plan but if you’re using squeeze pages it’ll be worth creating variations and split testing with Google’s free http://www.google.com/websiteoptimizer – see which page converts the best keep that one, bin the other one and create a new variation to test and repeat! The better your conversions the faster your list will grow. Hope that helps!

Think of it if you can get 500-2000 fans…people who believe in you and your message. Having a targeted list enables you to drive traffic to any offer that would benefit them.

I have a real “problem” (…if you can call it that…) in switching off. Ideas just keep popping into my head.

The challenge was a brilliant idea and glad to have you onboard.

      Reach new heights,

      Nathan

    Hi Nathan,

Are you segmenting your list already as you build it up to 2000?

This will be key to ensuring you don’t end up with a large unresponsive list.

I wish you well and I remember reading about your life on the trains a few weeks ago. Great that you have set yourself a resignation date – can still remember mine 31st Jan 2003 after 4 years of working into the wee hours. It will be the best day of your life!

You are one of the few internet marketers in the past week that I have spoken to that has continually talked about their plan. This is refreshing to see and certainly the key to your success.

    All the best.

    Cheers

    Andy
